Panayiotis Myrianthopoulos, MSc, is a Laboratory Scientific Officer II in the Department of Cytogenetics and Genomics (Head: Dr Carolina Sismani) at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics since 2014. He obtained his BSc in Biological Sciences from the University in Reading in 2012 and his MSc in Molecular Medicine from the Cyprus School of Molecular Medicine in 2013.
His work focuses on the investigation of chromosomal abnormalities, which lead to several human disorders and conditions, such as intellectual disability, mental retardation, developmental delay, congenital abnormalities, infertility and miscarriages. More specifically, he handles a variety of biological specimens including amniotic fluid, chorionic villus sample, products of conception, skin, peripheral and fetal blood. He performs prenatal tissue culture techniques, conventional karyotype analysis, fluorescent in situ hybridization, sperm fragmentation, array-CGH (Comparative Genomic Hybridization). He is also involved in the establishment of immortalized cell lines.
